There’s a new mobile app that can help people find answers to problems in the quality of air they breathe in the workplace—the AirAssess – Improve Indoor Air Quality at Work.

“OHCOW has been successfully using an Indoor Climate survey since 1993 in over 120 buildings. Now, as a result of our valuable partnership with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), we are very pleased to be launching an app version of this validated survey,” Valerie Wolfe, Executive Director, South Central Region, at OHCOW, said in a statement. “Once again, we are putting health and safety in the hands of workers. Assess your air, share the results, brainstorm solutions – and breathe easier!”

Gareth Jones, CCOHS President and Chief Executive Officer, also said: “CCOHS has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with OHCOW and it is always exciting when our shared goals and collaborations produce something that can truly make a positive impact on the health and safety of workers. The app is one such example.”

A project collaboration between the OHCOW and the CCOHS, the mobile app provides a questionnaire to its users that responds to basic questions about current work conditions, including allergies, workplace stress levels, and environment issues.

The responses offer significant information that reveals concerns related to the air quality in their place of work.

Upon answering the questionnaire, the mobile app will search for links that provide users with some ideas on how to resolve air quality issues in their workspaces.

Poor air quality indoors has become a growing concern around the world.

Culprits seen are the inadequately or improperly maintained ventilation and heating systems, construction materials used, and increasing building occupants, among other things.

Healthy issues that usually arise from having poor air quality indoors are irritation and dryness of nose, eyes, skin, and throat; fatigue; headaches; hypersensitivity; shortness of breath; sinus congestion; allergies; nausea; sneezing; coughing; and dizziness.

To download the mobile app, go to Google Play, BlackBerry World, Apple App Store, CCOHS and OHCOW.
