10 Syrian nationals seek asylum in Spain

Ten Syrian nationals from Lebanon arrived at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain around 11 a.m. last Wednesday, October 26, under the National Re-settlement Programme that started in December 2015.

Five will be re-settled in Ourense and the other half will be in Zamora.

The group was composed of six children, two women, and two men.

With the arrival of these refugees, Spain currently has 687 refugees, of which 398 are under its re-location programme and 289 are on its re-settlement programme.

According to its government website, “The Spanish System for the Reception and Integration of applicants/beneficiaries of international protection offers its beneficiaries a stay at a reception centre of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security or of an NGO (subsidised by the government) at which they are guaranteed lodging, meals, legal advice, psychological assistance, social care and advice, accompaniment to education centres, public health and social centres, language learning and basic social skills, guidance and intermediation for vocational training and job reinsertion, cultural activities and economic aid.”
